PhD Openings

The ECOMATES training program consists of cutting-edge research projects executed by ten Doctoral Candidates (DCs) recruited across the different institutions of the training network. The DCs will develop innovative scientific and technical skills, but also follow complementary and interdisciplinary skills courses, both at a local and network-wide level. International and intersectoral secondment across the partners in the network will be an important part of DC’s training activity. Here follows a summary of the PhD openings in the network and the corresponding project titles:

DC# Recruiting Participant Project Title
1 POLITO
Synthesis and characterization of bimetallic Cu/M catalysts via ALD
2 IIT
Synthesis and characterization of bimetallic Cu/M catalysts via hydro/solvothermal methods
3 UM
Synthesis and characterization of bimetallic Cu/M catalysts via electrodeposition
4 POLITO
Computer aided design of bimetallic compound surfaces with improved CO2RR selectivity
5 UI
Identification of reaction mechanism and estimate of reaction rates
6 TCD
Discovery of bimetallic catalysts via machine learning algorithms
7 ERSF
Operando analysis of bimetallic electrocatalysts
8 VITO Development and upscaling of gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) for electrochemical CO2 reduction
9 ADVENT
Design and optimization of membranes for CO2RR processes
10 APRIA
Design and testing of a lab scale electrolyser

  4. An attestation of master diploma and other relevant degrees.
  5. Contact details of two referees.
  6. A document (textual, visual, etc. max 2 A4 pdf) that describes what your research focus will be with respect to the project you are applying to and how you propose to go beyond the state of the art in the field. If you are applying for multiple positions, you should prepare one document for each position.

The application must be written in English.

Submit all the above documents by email to recruitment@msca-dn-ecomates.eu. As the subject of your email, please use “ECOMATES application – your name”. Only complete applications will be accepted.

Selection process:

Recruitment will be open, transparent, equitable and merit-based in line with the European Charter and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The evaluation and selection procedure will take place in a non-discriminatory manner, promoting equal opportunities and no discrimination against researchers in any way. Candidates that fit best for the different projects will be selected according to the following steps:

  • Eligibility check: applications will be reviewed for eligibility based on the criteria listed above under the requirements section and on the recruiting beneficiary criteria listed in the project webpage.
  • Preselection based on the submitted documents: eligible candidates will be ranked, and shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an online interview. Those not shortlisted will receive a notification on the result of their application.
  • After interviews, candidates will be offered a position or will be informed about the rejection decision.

The outcomes of the selection will be communicated in April 2023. Candidates will have 14 days to accept the position. Later selected candidates will have to provide the required documents to start the contractualization phase with the beneficiary.

The individual DC projects are set to start between 01.05.2023 and 01.11.2023.
