Advent Technologies SA

Advent Technologies SA (ADVENT) was founded in Greece in 2005 by world-renowned scientists and industry leaders envisioning a world with clean, safe, sustainable, and affordable energy.  Advent S.A. is based in Greece with R&D and production facilities in Patras and Athens. Advent is a wholly owned subsidiary of Advent Technologies Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADN), a US corporation that develops, manufactures, and assembles critical components in the renewable energy sector for fuel cells and advanced energy systems.

Advent’s mission is to bring next-generation fuel cell and electrolyzer technology to the market.  Over the last fifteen years, Advent has established itself as a world leader in developing advanced materials, components, and processes for energy, defense, security, and aerospace fuel cell applications with clients in Europe, China, and the U.S.  Advent has completed more than 38 E.U. and nationally sponsored projects with aggregate funding received over the years, exceeding €12M and has developed a strong portfolio of intellectual property, with 190 plus patents issued (or pending) for its fuel cell technology. Advent has production & R&D facilities in Patras Greece, in Aalborg Denmark, in Achern Germany and in Boston and Charlestown, MA and a Silicon Valley engineering design centre in Livermore, CA., U.S.  In February 2021, Advent acquired UltraCell L.L.C., a company based in Livermore, CA, a leader in lightweight fuel cell stacks and on September 2021, the company announced the Acquisition of SerEnergy A/S and fischer eco solutions GmbH.

Research Team

Advent’s team involved in ECOMATES brings years of research excellence and business expertise through a combination of young, highly educated talents and experienced scientists and business experts. A short description of the core team members is given in the table below:

Dr. Christos Chochos, R&D Materials Director, specialist in polymer chemistry and energy related technologies (organic photovoltaics, fuel cells, electrolyzers).
Dimitris Bichtas, Mechanical Engineer, will assist in the coordination of day-to-day activities in regard to Advent’s scope of work.
Vasiliki Zogali, PhD candidate, is a Junior Polymer (Synthetic) Chemist in R&D Department in Advent Technologies and she has experience in optimizing synthetic challenging projects, delivering reliable and reproducible processes.

Infrastructure

Large-scale polymer synthesis: Advent possesses well equipped production facilities for large scale polymer synthesis in Kg/month as well as state-of-the-art organic synthesis laboratories for the synthesis and development of new polymers and membranes at laboratory scale and their characterization.

Electrode and MEA production: These facilities are also equipped for electrode preparation with various techniques, as well as for MEA production. Current MEA production capacity is over 1.000 units of standard MEAs at 45 cm2 per month. Advent also has hydraulic presses capable of manufacturing MEAs greater than 1.000 cm2.

Single cell testing: The company possesses 8 automated single cell testing units, and 4 non automated units for single cells and fuel cell stacks of maximum 3kW power. All these units can carry out both long term stability experiments and detailed electro kinetic measurements.
